My client in the Meat/frozen food industry is looking for a Factory/Operation Manager. The candidate will be reporting to the Operations Director.

JOB PURPOSE

Plan, direct, coordinate and control:

  • Production at main plant area according to required specifications and quality standards.
  • The Cold Store activities.

ROUTINE TASKS

PRODUCTION

  • Ensure effective general management of all areas in the main plant and cold store.
  • Manage, motivate and control all the staff working in main plant and cold store area.
  • Ensure attainment and measurement of daily production and operational targets.
  • Check that staff are at work and report absentees timeously to Human Resources section.
  • Set and plan production goals and communicate it to key personnel.
  • Plan, document and measure the daily production output of all production lines and sections in the main plant and cold store area.
  • Organize, co-ordinate and control the daily production activities in the main plant area and cold store.
  • Plan daily production with all section managers taking into account worker capacity.
  • Ensure that line management and supervisors adhere to your instructions and perform their duties as per their job descriptions.
  • Coordinate and control issuing of raw materials.
  • Ensure finished product is checked for deviations from quality standards.
  • Ensure product is correctly weighed and labelled.
  • Ensure the correct and effective dispatch of orders from the quality control section.
  • Ensure good housekeeping practises in the chillers, freezers, cold store and dry stores plus monitor stock rotation in the chillers, freezers, cold store and dry stores.
  • Implement and maintain measures to reduce wastage of and damage to stock in freezers, chillers, dry stores and production area.
  • Ensure that temperature controls are adhered to and that the correct thawing procedures are followed.
  • Manage and evaluate machines and equipment to ensure productivity and minimal downtime.
  • Strive to reduce expenses and increase productivity across all product lines.
  • Communicate any problems or obstacles to senior and top management.
  • Communication effectively with other sections, managers and supervisors.
  • Process, organize and report to top and line management on operations and production information.
  • Engage in regular product development and continual improvement exercises.
  • Organizing the repair and routine maintenance of machinery and equipment in your area of responsibility.
  • Estimating costs and assist in preparing budgets.
  • Selecting and ordering of packaging materials.
  • Selecting and ordering of dry ingredients – spices etc.
  • Identify staff training needs and organising relevant training sessions.
  • Provide production progress report to line management as requested.
  • Process, organize and report to top and line management on operations and production information.
  • Perform administrative duties as per required job functions.
  • Establish and enforce work schedules.
  • Assist in recruitment and placement of staff, establishment of organisational structure, delegation of tasks and accountabilities.
  • Manage relationship and communication between management, Sales, Production and Logistics.
  • Evaluate work performance of staff in all sections.
  • Ensure that staff are wearing clean undamaged uniforms as per company policy.
  • Ensure that functions are delegated where necessary.
  • Assist sales personnel in all customer and sales related issues.
  • Identify problem areas and devise practical, measurable solutions.
  • Manage, control and measure wastage and damage to products.
  • Ensure the setting of production times of each product.
  • Ensure regular block and yield tests and cost and selling comparisons of all products in order to achieve gross profit margins as per target limit.
  • Ensure the execution of preventative and planned maintenance of the premises, plant, refrigeration and equipment.

FINANCIAL CONTROLS

  • Review financial statements, control and verify invoices.
  • Ensure the management and control of the company financial rules and procedures in all relevant sections.
  • Implement and maintain measures to improve profitability.
  • Ensure the costing control of products on a daily basis.

QUALITY / FOOD SAFETY AND HEALTH & SAFETY

  • Manage, maintain and enforce food safety procedures and requirements.
  • Monitor, maintain and ensure that all personnel abide by specific conditions of employment and to all company rules, regulations, procedures and policies.
  • Ensure, manage and enforce good hygiene practices and housekeeping of all the areas in the plant, cold store included.
  • Manage, maintain and enforce quality standards, policies, procedures and requirements.
  • Manage, maintain and enforce health & safety legal requirements plus company health and safety procedures.

 

STOCK CONTROL

  • Manage the availability of raw materials.
  • Monitor and regulate daily, weekly and monthly stock levels in all sections and the cold store.
  • Ensure effective monthly stocktaking in all sections and the cold store.
  • Ensure the verification of stock levels in the cold store on a monthly basis.
  • Place orders for all consumables timeously.

 

GENERAL

  • Lead weekly management meeting with Section supervisors and managers.
  • Ensure weekly meeting with Operations Director.

HOUSEKEEPING

  • Ensure, manage and enforce good housekeeping in all areas of the main production plant and cold store.

CRITICAL LIMITS

  • Ensure the meeting of daily production targets and quality standards.
  • Ensure that there are no raw material shortages.
  • Take all measures possible to prevent stock losses and / or theft of company property.

STOCK TAKING

  • Coordinate and assist with the monthly stock taking process.

OTHER

Perform any other reasonable tasks as instructed and requested by the Operations Director.

 

Salary:  R 40 000 ctc
